venting.

Today, I am primarily grouchy with myself.  If I could bitch about myself to someone, I would.  And it would be something along the lines of how much she wastes her time and how much she procrastinates and how she could be ten times more successful than she is if she just worked harder and how she is so down on herself all the time, so no wonder she achieves nothing cos she has no faith in herself.

I would then go on to bag out my fashion sense, or lack thereof, which lately has been quite.... meh.  I barely brushed my hair before leaving the house today, and not in a good 'messy bed head look' kinda way.  I need to stop dressing like I am ten years old.  I need to start looking like an adult 27 year old female who perhaps may be desirable to males (but off the market because I have a boyfriend, thanks).  But this takes time and money to update my look and appearance, and if I got off my arse and worked harder then I would have money.  Maybe not as much time cos I would be working.  But at least I could by some new swaggarific clothes.

So after attacking my lack of work-ethic and my lack of fashion sense, I would then proceed to bag out my untidiness.  I hate being untidy.  I am a tidy person trapped in an untidy person's body. Am I trapped in their body?  I guess it is the body that picks up clothes, and the brain that desires to be tidy?  Like there is a link missing between my thoughts and my actions.  So I would absolutely rip in to myself about that.

And the way i talk.  I sound like a child-bogan.  A kid-bogan may be more appropriate a term actually.  Some kid bogan that doesn't know how to have proper diction real good.  Who gets tied tongue real bad.  Who has a university education but can't demonstrate proper thought processes verbally.

If only I could ring myself up and bitch about myself to myself.  And hear myself agree and then we all feel better knowing I am not alone in my thoughts.  And then saying, no no no you aren't bitching, you are just venting, it is good to vent.  There is a difference between bitching and venting, you know.  If you don't get it all out then you will explode.

So, I am venting on my blog cos that is kinda like bitching about myself to myself.  I don't think people even really read this thing anyways... So, thanks for the chat, it was nice catching up, it's been awhile.  Let's go out for a beer soon, yeah?  Yeah I will keep you posted on what SHE says next time I see HER stupid bitch.  talk to you soon.  Ok bye.

Traffic

Today I really just want to bitch and moan about the traffic in the city that I live in.  I'm just saying.  Compared to other states i have lived in, my city really is just retarded.
Ok so it is an 80km per hour zone.  Soooooo let's all done 60-70 kms per hour.  No worries.  i will just jump in to the right hand 'fast lane' and ovetake you.  OHHHHHH NOOOOO I will sit behind another person who is doing 70 km/ph.   No worries.  I will just sit here and wave my hands at you ignorant idiot.

Don't get me wrong, I am completely against speeding.  You should not excessively speed, for any reason, and if you do, I hope you crash yourself in to a tree injuring only yourself and no one else.  All I ask for, is for people to drive at the limit, not above or below it.  They can manage in every state in Australia, so why do they struggle in Tasmania??  Furthermore, when the light turns green, how about we all move forward at once?  Wow what a great idea... instead of sitting there and thinking hmmm the car in front has moved so maybe I might move now... take my foot off the brake, put it in to gear.... and let's go...

i swear everyone in this city should just drive in Melbourne for a short while and realise what the hell life is all about.  and any Tasmanian who complains about 'maniacal Victorian drivers' (or anyone from the mainland) drives me insane because Victorians are actually really good drivers - they let people change lanes when they need to, they keep traffic flowing rather than driving over the Tasman bridge as slow as possible during peak hour, when there is actually no need to drive slow... They all take off from traffic lights... so when poor old Victorians are driving around tasmania, they get called maniacs because they are driving fast or changing lanes and whatever, when really it is the Tasmanian who is stupid cos they havent given way blah blah blah.

So I am ranting and I am totally aware that no one cares, and everyone is probably offended, but this has just been annoying me for years and today is the day i am exploding.

Phew.

A Result!

So, this is a follow up from my blog entry titled 'fake'.  I just watched this 'fabulous' British TV programme called "Snog, Marry, Avoid' where they aim to do a 'make under' on people - the opposite of a make over, because these people are so severely made up that the only way to go is back down again.  It was so refreshing to see these people discovering that they could look BETTER than they did before and how it gave them more confidence and pride in themselves.  Sure, the delivery of the programme itself was cheesy and a little bit silly, but I really liked the sentiment and the message it was trying to convey.  It claims that it is the first show of its kind to do a 'make-under', and I really hope it is not the last!
So, my whinge on the topic has been put to rest - I feel as though I am not alone in my fear for young females, and because someone is doing something about it, I can relax!

Now, time to find something else to complain about!

Cold and Flu time

When people have a cold, they seem to feel that it is still ok for them to come to work.  This is because everyone else sees other people coming to work with a cold, then think they too had  better go to work with a cold cos it is 'only a cold', and if I miss work cos I only have a cold, then I am being unfair to those people who go to work and soldier on.

But it really iritates me, cos inevitably I end up getting a cold too and seriously if we all just stay at home, we wouldn't spread our germs.  Or maybe if the culture of wearing face masks could begin so that we all just remain in our own germ free little bubbles.

It seems to be more prevalent in the industries where I work, which is teaching and coaching, because children are told by their parents to come along even though they are sick, or because it is 'bad to miss a training session' or bad to miss school - and kids are worse at not spreading their germs than adults. And, I admit, I have gone to work with a cold because it is easier than trying to find someone else who can coach my kids or teach my class or whatever. So there I am, spreading my germs!  I am positive that if I worked in an office or something I would probably just stay home.  But having never worked in an office, I wouldn't know if people turn up sick or not!

When I photographed new born babies at hospitals, I had no choice to stay home when I had even just the slightest sniffle, because I couldnt go any where near the babies in case I made them sick.  Surely the same rule should apply to schools etc where germs spread like wildfire...

What a bizarre culture we have.

Fake

I am half British.  I am a pale skinned person.  I am so pale, I probably glow under UV lights.  Every once in a little while, I apply some fake tan to my legs.  Yes, I am a 'tan-the-leg-only' kinda person.  And it has to be a SPECIAL occasion to warrant such effort.
I understand the appeal for tan skin.  It suggests healthyness, as opposed to sick, pale, maybe slightly red skin.
But what I am flabbergasted by is how so many young people that I know are utterly obsessed with tan skin.  Their self-esteem depends on being brown (although sometimes they look orange...).  Someone I know didn't go to school cos they had a hole in their stockings and hadn't tanned their legs!!
What the hell is the media doing to young people that demands them to want tanned skin?  (I have a feeling it may be Jersey Shore's fault... lol.)  How do they find the time, energy, money, patience to maintain such a tan?  I tried using the gradual every day building tan, and after about 4 days it all came off with the dead skin on the (white) towel!  So then what do you do, bust out 'le tan in a can' while you wait for the gradual tan to develop again over time?  TOO MUCH EFFORT!!
It then leads me to my other bug bear, which extends from the need to have fake tan in to the need to have fake everything else - people go out on the town these days with fake eyelashes, fake hair extensions, fake nails, fake tan, fake boobs (in the plastic surgery form or the push up bra, chicken fillet form), fake height due to mega high heels...  The pressure to be the 'unobtainable ideal' is so prolific, more so than previous generations I am thinking.  I have no idea if I am right in assuming this, but I do not remember needing fake facial features or anything for my formal, or 18th brithday...
It's almost as if females are trying to Photoshop themselves in real life.
And I hate to break it to you, but quite often, the amount of effort y'all go to to look completely not like your natural self, doesnt really make you look any better than you were before anyways...
I am troubled for these young people, who are growing up with unfairly distorted images of what is beautiful and what is normal, and I deeply hope that their self-esteem can be found in a healthier view of themselves.  But I actually believe that it is giong to get worse and that this bubble will never burst - as if pale skin would ever be in fashion!  And there is not much left to fake without resorting to drastic measures, unless they come up with teeth covers that look perfect without the need for braces, or plastic noses that blend right in with a little fake tan and eyelash glue.....
And my final question is, if you like to be tanned yourself, do you hate it when other people are traipsing around all pale and ghostlike?  Or do you forgive those people cos you dont really care what other people look like as long as you yourself don't look pale?  Cos if that is the case, wouldn't you assume that everyone else doesn't care what you look like, so you may as well pale it up.....?????
Give me some answers, some insight as to what makes you feel like you need to look how you  look.  I would love to know so I can understand better and be less judgemental (although I have tried to not sound judgemental, I reckon I am coming across that way so please help me to cool my jets....).  Is it the media's fault, or is it simply that you actually love putting on fake eyelashes?  Do you believe that they make you look better or do you do it cos everyone else does it, and if you don't, you look shit by comparison so even though you look super fantastic without them, you put them on to look as good as those who do have them on....
wow if you just finished reading all of that entire rant, I applaud you....
To conclude, I will finish by saying that I am not a make-up wearing person, yet I found myself wearing make-up on a recent holiday so that I would appear just as good in photographs as those I was travelling with.  If, one day, I find myself applying the eyelashes so that my eyes look as wide as someone elses in a photograph, I will eat my fake chicken fillet...

Grouch.

I have the tendancy to be a grumpy, grouchy, opinionated young person.

There are many times that the grouch comes out, and instead of 'blessing' my family and friends with my dramatic insights, I am going to vent to my blog.

And so begins The Little Grouch.
